Press releases for St Dennis Parish Council meeting May 2005.

The Annual General Meeting of the St.Dennis Parish Council took place on Tuesday 3rd May. At this meeting the Chairman, and all the Committees are elected for the following year, and together with all the other items on the Agenda the meeting is usually very long. This year was no exception, spreading from 6.30 to 10.30 p.m.

Mr. Fred Greenslade was re-elected Chairman and Mrs. Julia Clarke elected as Vice-Chairman. Members of the various Committees, including Planning, General Purposes, Cemetery and Urgent Business were also elected, and all the Policy documents, Standing Orders, and Financial practices of the Council were reviewed and updated.

There had been serious problems of disruptive behaviour over the weekend in the centre of the village connected with a derelict house, and the police had been called several times to intervene. Constable Carhart was monitoring the situation and suggested that if the culprits could be named, this would greatly assist him. Further vandalism in the Playing Fields had meant that the climbing frame had to replaced at a cost of £475.

There was also a further long discussion on the Waste to Energy proposals by the County Council and Mr.Higman provided details of the efforts he and some other Councillors had made to get the matter debated before the County Council elections on 5th May. All Councillors present felt that there should be further investigations into alternative methods of waste disposal rather than just accepting incinerator. In the last five years, since the Local Waste Plan was formulated, there had been great advances in all methods of waste disposal.

Mrs. Ellacott, the newest member of the Parish Council, had been investigating the possibility of a Parish Council website and she provided information on the cost and the best method of implementing this. Councillors agreed that it would be beneficial to have such a site and Mrs. Ellacott kindly agreed to set up the site and run it on behalf of the Council.

Councillors approved Minutes and reports of meetings by the Cemetery, General Purposes and Cemetery Committee during the last month and Mr. Blewett reported on the proposals by the County Council to improve footpaths around the County.

There being no further business, the meeting closed at 10.30 p.m.
