Press release for St Dennis Parish Council meeting July 2005

The July meeting of St.Dennis Parish Council opened with the introduction to Councillors of the new Clerk, Mr. Ken Holden. Mr. Holden commenced employment with the Council with effect from 1st July and would be working with the outgoing Clerk, Mrs. Salmon, for the following month to provide an effective “change over”.

Although Constable Carhart was unable to be present, he had forwarded a copy of the crime statistics for the previous two months which showed 17, 9 of which had been detected. Councillors asked that a letter be forwarded to him with congratulations on the number of successful detections.

Mr.Higman reported on his work at the County Council where he had been appointed to the Executive and was responsible for Corporate Support. He also advised that he would be meeting with the Divisional Surveyor on the 13th July to survey the whole of the Rock Ward. He proposed to discuss with the Surveyor the provision of a footway at Trerice, a review of the “build outs” in Hendra Road, the provision of reflective bollards/signs at the junction with Brewers Hill and Gothers Road and replacement of broken signs at Trelavour Road and Brewers Hill. He also provided information on the latest developments with the Waste to Energy Plant and the PFI bid. Councillors were also advised that the government required the County Council to make a 2.5% saving this year, without loss of services.

Mr. Greenslade also reported on his work at the Borough Council and confirmed that Restormel also had to make a saving of 2.5% this year. He also advised on his attendance at the Development Control Committee meeting earlier that day

Work was still in progress on efforts to re-instate the footpath across Hendra Downs and following the Planning Committee’s recommendations on the proposals submitted through the Borough Council, the Clerk was instructed to continue to pursue with the appropriate Planning Officer.

Information was also provided on the latest development with the transfer to the Parish Council of the War Memorial at Enniscaven Chapel and the efforts to ensure that the area was secured and well maintained. Additionally, as part of the Sure Start Project, the Parish Council were working with the Project leaders and Headteacher of the Primary School to provide suitable memorials to the fallen pupils of the school through two world wars. Plans had started for the provision of appropriate stone memorials both in the school grounds and on land adjacent to the School.

Councillors were pleased to learn that the County Council had re-instated its policy of weed treatment on roads and that County Highways had been in the parish during the week to undertake the work. Trees on Trelavour Prazey would also be pruned, and grass verges strimmed in preparation for Carnival Week.

Planning Committee reports were approved, together with a report from Councillor Julia Clarke on her attendance at the Imery Fal District Community Group meeting on the 30th June, when Imerys had agreed to pursue her request for the provision of suitable stones for the proposed memorials at the School.

A public meeting was also to be called on Monday 18th July, at 7 p.m. in the ClayTAWC Centre, inviting volunteers to try and “kick start” the provision of a Parish Plan.

With the resignation of Mrs. Salmon after 24 years of service, Councillors voted to pay a gratuity.

The meeting closed at 9.25 p.m. and the next full meeting of the Council was scheduled for Tuesday 2nd August.
