The first meeting of the new year for St.Dennis Parish Council was held on Tuesday 4th January in the ClayTAWC Centre and started with a one minute silence in rememberance of the victims of the Tsunami. It was unusually well attended by members of the public and there were long and quite intense conversations concerning the proposals by the County Council to introduce waiting restrictions on certain roads in the village. A public meeting had been held in November to gain the views of local residents to the proposals and at that time the response had been overwhelmingly against any such restrictions. However, the County Council had subsequently advised that although the scheme for Robartes Road had been omitted due to local representations, some areas included in the original proposals were likely to go ahead. The Chairman, as a Restormel District Councillor agreed to write to County Council with a request that the implementation of the restrictions be held until such time as a full village traffic survey could be carried out and a full consultation exercise undertaken to involve both the Parish Council and local residents, and advised that the Parish Council would also write with the same suggestion. The full village traffic survey exercise would be pursued by County Councillor Brian Higman.
Most members of the public then left the meeting which continued with usual business. Inspector Shipwright from St.Austell Police Station had agreed to meet with Councillors to discuss the continuing traffic problems throughout the whole village, and it was hoped that this meeting would be confirmed later in the month. Councillors also hoped to have a meeting with the Project Engineer involved in the construction of the Hendra Road footway.
New litter bins had recently been purchased and would shortly be sited - one in Hendra Road and the other on Trelavour Prazey. It was hoped that together with the appropriate signs, dog waste on Trelavour Prazey would be removed by dog owners. Councillors felt that as this was a recreational area, it was very important that it was safe.
Reports of the meetings of the Planning Committee and Urgent Business Committee undertaken during December, were approved and the date for the Annual Parish Meeting was agreed as Tuesday 8th March commencing at 7 p.m. in the ClayTAWC Centre.
Clerk also confirmed that no call for election had been made following the resignation of Mr. Catley and the Council were now able to co-opt a local resident. Anybody who might be interested in filling the vacancy should apply, in writing, to the Clerk by Tuesday 25th January.
There being no further business, the meeting closed at 8.55 p.m.
