The February meeting of St.Dennis Parish Council was very quiet, several of the Councillors being unwell or attending meetings. The local Beat Manager was not able to attend, and no members of the public were present.
Councillors received and discussed a report on the meeting with Inspector Shipwright earlier in the month relating to the anti-social behaviour which was occurring in the village centre, particularly at weekends. Several proposals had been discussed at the meeting and it was hoped the local police would be taking action both in St.Dennis and Roche.
The recent public meetings regarding waiting restrictions in parts of the village had culminated in a decision by County Highways to impose such restrictions in areas of Carne Hill, Wellington Road and Hendra Road. A meeting with the Project Engineer for the Hendra Road footway had indicated that once the waiting restrictions were in place, traffic problem at the bottom of Hendra Road should be reduced. It was also possible that an additional give way sign would be erected at the top of Hendra Road, to allow motorists more time to give priority to oncoming vehicles.
Clerk advised that no responses had been received to the vacancy for a Parish Councillor which had recently been advertised, but that it would legal for the Council to continue to operate whilst efforts were made to fill the vacancy.
Following the planting of daffodil bulbs on the new grass verges at Hendra Road and in the Cemetery, Clerk advised that there was now a surplus. Councillors agreed that these should be offered free to local residents and a suitable notice would be placed on the Public Notice Board with a date and time for collection.
Some of the items on the agenda for the meeting were deferred until the March meeting, as Councillors present felt that a full Council should be available to discuss and decide on the more important items. Minutes and reports from various Committees were approved and items relating to the Hendra Downs Footpath and the latest position on re-instatement were considered.
There being no further business, the meeting closed at 8.45 p.m.
