PARISH COUNCIL NEWS.

The Parish Council meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the ClayTAWC Centre. All meetings start at 7 p.m. and the public are very welcome to attend. There is a regular agenda item of 10 minutes duration when members of the public may speak and raise their particular concerns.

Notes from the Parish Council Meetings held on the 1st and 8th December.

  1. PC Humphries reported that were only 2 recorded crimes in November compared to 11 in November 2008.There had also been a large reduction in calls to the Police by the general public which had dropped from 145 in 2008 to 27 in 2009.PC Humphries will also be involved in the weekly ‘One Stop Shop’ in ClayTAWC from January and residents will be able to raise their concerns with him there. It is expected that St Dennis will have a new Police Community Support Officer in March but in the meantime the PCSO from St Stephen is assisting PC Humphries in St Dennis when available.

  2. The Council approved a precept of £35,610 for the year 1st April 2010 to 31st March 2011.The increase in precept is necessary to compensate for the loss of the grant formerly paid by Restormel Borough Council which is being withdrawn by Cornwall Council over the next two years. The loss of grant is £7,450 and represents a 23% reduction in the Council’s yearly income. The precept of £35,610 is the equivalent of an average parish council tax of only 89 pence per dwelling per week.

  3. The Council approved a draft of the Council’s Statement of Case which will be the basis of the Council’s submission to the ‘Incinerator’ Planning Inquiry in March. The Council also agreed to contribute up to £5,000 to finance the services of a barrister at the Public Inquiry.

  4. The Council agreed to purchase for £1 the red telephone box at Trerice from BT Payphones which is scheduled for closure and removal because of low usage. The Council will assume responsibility for the future maintenance of the box and preserve it as part of the heritage of the area although calls will no longer be able to be made.
