PARISH COUNCIL NEWS.
The Parish Council meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the ClayTAWC Centre. All meetings start at 7 p.m. and the public are very welcome to attend. There is a regular agenda item of 10 minutes duration when members of the public may speak and raise their particular concerns.
The Council received a presentation from Mr Tony Lee of Restormel B.C. on the subject of ‘affordable housing’.In a very interesting presentation Mr Lee explained the Borough Council’s policy with regard to affordable housing and what action was being taken to achieve the target number of houses required. With regard to St Dennis Mr Lee said that if St Dennis had a parish plan containing data on the demand for affordable housing in the parish it would be extremely useful to the Borough Council in its assessment of the problem.
The Community Policing report showed that there had been 6 reported crimes in March of which 3 had been detected. The total number of reported crimes during the last year totalled 65 compared with 98 for the previous year,a reduction of 33.6%.
A member of the public referred to the proposed amenity area to be provided on land to the rear of Dunstans Close and expressed concern over who would be responsible for the maintenance of the area.It was explained that the amenity area would be provided by the developers of the Dunstan Close houses and was a condition of the planning consent issued by Restormel Borough Council. The developers would be responsible for the maintenance of the area and if they failed to do this action would be taken by the Borough Council.
The Council received a report from County Councillor Higman setting out the latest position with regard to the change over to the new Unitary Authority for Cornwall.
The Council have received a commissioned report on the safety of the memorials in the Cemetery.The report highlighted that a total of 111 memorials (approx 12%) required remedial works and the Council’s Cemetery Committee will be considering the report in detail with regard to what action may be appropriate.
The accounts for the financial year 2007/08 were considered and approved. The accounts showed a surplus of £3,804 for the year and a general surplus of £5,582 carried forward together with reserves of £30,260 earmarked for specific projects.
